Social Work is the first Bulgarian applied science magazine for social work. The magazine provides original publications - research, analytical articles, science comments and reviews, research reports, science announcements, as well as reviews of books and educational literature in the field of social work.

Objectives of the magazine:

  • To serve as an exchange for experience and ideas between researchers in the area of social work and the social workers practicing on the field. 
  • To provide essential help in building an adequate perception about ​​the important social functions of the social work profession in the society and to play a substantial role in its institutionalisation.
  • To assist in the improvement of science research in a science field that is new for Bulgaria.
  • To share and spread the experience of the developed countries in the field of social work.
  • To contribute in improving the quality of education of future social workers. 
  • To assist those already practicing social work in the country in their efforts to improve their careers.

The magazine is targeted at researchers in the field of social work, teachers in social work, and practitioners in the field of social work and assisting specialists, students in social work and related fields; generally anyone interested in the area.


In terms of content, the magazine is primarily directed to:

  • specialised topics relating to specific areas of social work;
  • general theoretical social work issues in the field of objectives, principles, values​​, approaches, models, methods;
  • management of social work, the problems of planning, delivery and quality control of social services;
  • specific issues related to social work raised and discussed in a multidisciplinary perspective.


Form and periodicity of the issue:
The magazine is an electronic, non-profit publication. It is published periodically every three months - 4 books per year. The electronic format of presenting the magazine aims to facilitate and accelerate sharing, access and distribution of scientific information and professional communication among researchers, practitioners, teachers within the field of social work.



Each issue includes texts in different sections (see below) and regularly publishes special issues dedicated to a current topic of social work theory and practice. Certain issues also include an editorial by the Managing Editor.


Some of the main sections are:

"Analysis, surveys, science reviews" - analytical articles on a given problem; articles on general theoretical or applied theoretical issues that present a broad overview of existing approaches, concepts, research; opinions discussed, assessed and reassessed by the author on the basis of which opinions and summaries are formed.

"Research" - this section includes articles presenting the results of empirical and theoretical research with clearly defined thesis, theoretical proof part, interpretations and conclusions.

"Reviews and reports" - science publications in the field of social work (books, monographs, studies, etc.).

 "Events" - short notifications for conferences, seminars and more.
